Toyota Mobility: What does “Mobility For All” Really Mean?

August 5th, 2021 by

Toyota Mobility is a program designed to address the transportation needs of people who have a disability or any mobility issue, such as an elderly family member. The program provides both financial assistance and a variety of mobility solutions to meet your needs.

The flying car, for instance, emphasizes cutting-edge mobility tech ‘for all’ and was highlighted as early as the 2018 Toyota Super Bowl commercials. Toyota used the Super Bowl to showcase new and experimental motorized wheelchairs and other vehicles, including a futuristic flying car. In a 30-second Super Bowl spot called “Mobility Anthem,” Toyota briefly shows the LQ, a flying car, and it’s not just a special effect, but real technology.

“The one we show in the ad is a prototype concept car that actually does work,” said Toyota Motor spokesman Russ Koble.

The technological preview ad also showed a basketball player in a motorized wheelchair called the Exo-Wheel, which Toyota is also experimenting with as a prototype as part of Toyota’s Mobility for All campaign. Also featured was Toyota’s motorized wheelchair, called the iBot, to walk downstairs. That’s a prototype that Toyota has been developing in partnership with a company called Deka. None of these are on the market yet, the company said.

Toyota uses industrial robot technology for a variety of applications based on the dedication to ‘Supporting human life activities and living in harmony with people. For example, they have developed partner robots focused on support for people unable to move on their own, including the aging population.

Now, as Toyota transforms into a mobility company, they are expanding their robotics efforts themselves to also provide controlling platform or infrastructure technologies of the city.

Regardless of expansion in research fields, we would keep “automation with a human touch” which have been always cherished by our predecessors of Toyota as the most important elements in technologies, which means the system such as robotics or AI should not replace the human, but always cherish “the sense of agency” of human.

We hope to support realizing our customers’ ‘well-being” through life by developing human-centered systems. Here at Ralph Hayes Toyota, we are all for Toyota Mobility Solutions. Please visit our Toyota Mobility page. And contact us today.
